We know the story backwards and forwards. Cinderella triumphs over her evil stepmother and stepsisters with the help of her Fairy Godmother. Cinderella’s rags are magically turned into a beautiful gown, and she attends the Royal Ball-and becomes the most beautiful princess there! But will the Prince find whose foot fits the glass slipper? In a short narrative, the plot sounds like a combination of an episode of Revenge or Scandal, with a dash of Real Housewives thrown in for good measure. Add a pinch of Pretty Little Liars and you have one of the all-time classic tales ever put to a piece of parchment. To say that it has seen an array of incarnations and interpretations is the understatement of the Renaissance (I hear Bruce Jenner is currently in discussions with the producers of “Transparent” to launch a new mini-series on HBO with himself in the title role). Disney owns claim to the most revered and watched version with their classic film. Even Drew Barrymore starred in a movie version called “Ever After,” which was actually pretty good. Cinderella has been done on the screen, both big and little, and has been performed on ice (I’m sure Johnny Weir was in there somewhere). However, the closest one can get to a story that is at once intimate and a figment of imagination, is to be seen live, on a stage in a theatre, where facial expressions and passions are right there in your face.
This is the show that all ages can eNJoy together. The Broadway Theatre of Pitman proudly presents Cinderella in their 2015 Children’s Theatre Program on February 20 & 21. Here is a snippet of what audiences are saying:
“What a great way to introduce the world of pretend and fantasy to children. –Shannon
“Mr. Malcolm’s warm voice is inviting children of all ages to join in the fun of interacting with the characters. Especially when the children are brought on stage.
