When Irish Eyes Are Singing

celtic-womanWhen you first set eyes upon the four gorgeous women on the stage, you almost forget the fact that you are about to be entertained beyond belief. Three vocalists and a violinist take their places in the spotlight and soon, as the first strains of music waft out into the crowd, you are transported to a faraway land, where everything is green, and the children all have rosy cheeks, and the men laugh robustly as if they haven’t a care in the world. At this point, you are either at Oprah’s after Oscar party or at a Celtic Woman concert. If you guessed concert, you are correct sir!
Americans first got to see this unique, all-female adult contemporary ensemble on public television in March of 2005. Since then, they have 6 million CDs/DVDs sold worldwide, two Top 10 album debuts on the Billboard Top 200, 3 Gold and Platinum albums, 4 Top 5 releases on the Billboard Top Video chart and over 1.7 million concert tickets sold.

Based in Dublin, Ireland, they have traversed the globe, performing in some of the world’s most prestigious theatres and arenas… The Olympiahalle in Munich, the Hallenstadion in Zurich, the Royal Carre Theatre in Amsterdam and the Stone Pony in Asbury Park to name but a few and one that really didn’t happen. Can ya guess?
They have even performed two songs on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” a daytime soap opera (and yes, the soap would have to be Irish Spring).
The ladies of the ensemble include Mairead, Chloe, Lisa and Susan. I wanted to get their names down in the rarest of hopes that I might run into them at the bar at Rod’s in Sea Girt. Yeah, that and my pot ‘o gold will be waitin’ at the end of the rainbow. Aren’t enough Lucky Charms in the world to make that happen.
So I will be content to sit in the audience at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on March 14th, letting the music take me away. In my wildest of dreams, it will be a one-way, non-refundable destination where everything is green, the children all have rosy cheeks, the men all laugh robustly, and I’m all smiles and freckles, sharing a Guinness with a lovely singing lassie.
