Flower the People

flower-showYes, we are in midst of winter. The winds are howling, the air is biting cold, the roads are covered in snow, ice or leftover salt, and the only color we see is in the frozen ruby cheeks of the young’uns. So, of course, it must be time to think about flowers and springtime gardens. Makes sense to me. Oh wait, guess what holiday comes around this month that usually involves candy, jewelry and hey, what do you know…flowers!

Horticulturalists start your engines. The 11th Annual New Jersey Garden and Flower Show kicks off February 14 – 17 at the NJ Convention Center in Edison. The New Jersey Flower Show attracts over 25,000 flower and garden enthusiasts annually, highlighting fabulous display gardens, a Standard Flower Show presented by the Garden Club of New Jersey, the Garden Marketplace, top-quality seminars and so much more! The theme for this year’s show is “Mardi Gras Around the World.” Take a peek of what to expect when you view the beautiful garden displays by reading about each interpretation of “Mardi Gras Around the World” from all of the participating companies. Expect rivers of color and fragrance in beautiful display gardens, sit in on seminars and shop ‘til you drop in the Great Garden Marketplace. Bring your wheelbarrow! Expect to be tempted as you shop in our GREAT GARDEN MARKETPLACE filled with over 125 vendors. Their shops will be filled with items specially chosen for the New Jersey Flower & Garden Show – garden ornaments, garden tools, floral arrangements and accessories, jewelry, fresh flowers, orchids, art and more. Plant materials and garden accessories will be offered for sale from selected gardens on Sunday from 5 to 6 PM.

Need your landscape designed & built but don’t know where to turn? “Yard Crashers” aside, some of the best landscaping design professionals in the state will be on hand to show you what can be done, whether it’s in a relatively small space or a huge tract of land. On the show floor you can see how New Jersey’s top companies handle typical backyard design problems. Talk to a professional at the show and get your project scheduled now, before spring demand peaks.

The NJ Convention Center is located in central New Jersey off Route 287. It is easy to find and the free parking is a bonus. For more detailed information on hours, ticket prices and directions, visit their website. And don’t forget your wheelbarrow!
