The Puck Stops Here

Baseball season is over (really over if you’re a Mets or Phillies fan, and horribly over if you’re a Yankee fan). The Giants, Jets and Eagles are hitting their mid-season stride and fans are screaming for Vick, Manning and Tebow (for different reasons). The void left by the NBA’s Nets has become a reality (Brooklyn? Jay-Z? Seriously?).
But what has many New Jersey residents and sports fans in complete disbelief is the deafening silence coming from the ice within the Prudential Center. No skating, no checking, no referee’s whistles blowing and darn it, no Canadian National Anthem!
It’s downright un-American.

The NHL lockout is now in it’s second month and whether or not they have a season at all is dependent on more economic and union factors than a presidential election.
Devils and Flyers fans alike are killing time by cleaning out the garage, watching “Pawn Stars” and rediscovering whom they’re married to. A dangerous game in itself.

As always, New Jersey comes with a list of options; in this case, it is the Trenton Thunder, a Philadelphia Flyers affiliate in the ECHL, one step away from “the show” in the NHL. They are skating in Trenton and the National Bank Sun Center has events scheduled for the entire season. Air guitar competitions, Italian Night, Dairy Queen Night and family events are among the many promotions that you rarely see these days at an NHL game. Of course, we aren’t seeing anything at NHL games now.
The Titans have also played their part in contributing to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, sending donations and thousands of dollars to hard hit areas.
