Garden State Golf

Golfer hits his tee shot 300 yards straight down the middle of the fairway. He shanks his next shot into the woods. It bounces off a tree, comes back, hits him in the head and kills him immediately. He goes up to Heaven where St. Peter meets him at the gate and inquires, “Who are you?” He replies, “I’m a golfer.” St. Peter asks, “Are you any good?” to which he responds, “Hah, I got here in two, didn’t I?”

When we see sunshine and feel that warm spring breeze waft in through our open windows, some men want to get out there and plant tomatoes, others want to unwrap that fishing boat, some break out the running shoes and hit the trails. But for those of us who have been bitten by the duffer bug there is only one thing on our minds – to get out the clubs and head to the nearest driving range, preparing for the inevitable and anticipated assault on our course of choice. Are we up for the challenge? I shoot in the low 70’s. Any colder than that I stay home. What would it be like to play like a pro? Or to play with a pro? It’s easy to find out as several tournaments are coming to New Jersey beginning in April. Here’s what you can expect to find in the coming weeks…

Travel Pro Am in Atlantic City
New for 2012, the New Jersey Section will begin the season with a Travel Pro Am to the Atlantic City area. Professionals will be joined by three amateur partners to compete in a 36-hole, four ball stroke play event. The first round will be held on Monday, April 2nd and the second round will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd, both being contested at the nationally ranked Galloway National Golf Club. All teams will receive two nights accomodations in the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, located just 10 minutes from the golf club. PGA Professionals may contact the Section office for pricing or to register your team today.

So no matter where you live in the state, there is a course waiting for you to tee it up with the big boys, or just walk along the fairways to get a glimpse of some of the pros you watch on TV every weekend. And please, when you get out there, think more “The Greatest Game Ever Played” and not “Happy Gilmore.”
