Full Moon Hike

Full moons mean many things to many people. There are romantic visions of nights spent under its warm glow, when lovers whisper sweet words to each other in convertibles along the Shore. There are those who shudder at the sight of the ghastly glow that peers out from between the clouds, fearing the harbingers of horrors yet to come. Fishermen look to the rising tides that accompany each full moon and plan their outings accordingly. And God only knows what Jacob and the others in his Twilight clan turn into once every month.

For each interpretation of the full moon’s significance, there is a story, a dream and a relationship. But in the state of New Jersey there is another way to enjoy this monthly occurrence, in a very interesting and unique way. It’s called the Full Moon Hike and it takes place every month. By the light of the full moon, experience a guided 2-hour walk through the Lost Brook Preserve. The hike is approximately 1½ miles and participants will stop for a quiet rest at the crossroads of the Purple and Allison Trail. This tranquil, meditative hike encourages reflection and connection with nature while experiencing the trails in a new way.

Yes, it sounds like a premise for a movie. I guess it depends on how one views the world but one thing is for sure – it is different. And experiencing this event at the closing of the year gives it a kind of special significance and deeper meaning. Or not. In case of inclement weather the program will be postponed to the following month. It is recommended for adults. Surprise. And pre-registration is required.
You should probably remember to bring a flashlight. Wolfbane is optional, but if you have a garlic necklace, it couldn’t hurt to wear it. Unless you bring a date. That never ends well.
