Can a Bright Music Scene Save Atlantic City?

Can a Bright Music Scene Save Atlantic City?
By Victoria Corinne

Atlantic City has seen the roughest of times over the last year or so due to economic hardship. With casinos closing such as Revel, Trump Plaza, Showboat and The Atlantic Club, the once thriving city has been figuring out ways to get its famous reputation back. But what else could AC offer besides their widely known casinos, beaches and boardwalk?

Last month, the beautiful and lively Borgata casino announced a number of shows that are set to kick off the summer in their newly constructed concert venue. What’s so special about another event center in the hotel, you ask? The 4,500-capacity space is located just outside the hotel, at the Borgata’s Northeast entrance. The Borgata Festival Park doesn’t officially open until June 13th, but many casino goers are very excited to see Atlantic City get the push they need to get back on their feet, thanks to the new music venue.

“As an avid Atlantic City and concert attendee, I’m eager to not only hang out and feel out the atmosphere of the new venue, but I’m also excited to see how many people it brings to South Jersey this summer,” said Morgan Eichler, a 22-year-old student at Rider University.

The Borgata is known for booking world-renowned acts that usually perform in the Music Box, the Borgata’s 1,000-seat venue, but it doesn’t compare to an outdoor venue. Kicking off the opening of the Festival Park are legends The Hooters/ G. Love & Special Sauce/ and Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, who will all be playing on June 13th. Other acts that are scheduled to perform this summer include The Killers, Meghan Trainor, 311 with The Wailers, Counting Crows and more. Atlantic City is a place that employs hundreds, is visited by thousands and is enjoyed by an innumerable amount of people. The city may have been stuck in a rut for some time, but the new venue has the power to bring AC back to what it has always been. As the great Bruce Springsteen once said, “Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty and meet me tonight in Atlantic City.”
