earthEarth Day is April 22nd. For some folks, it is every day. New Jersey is and has always been at the forefront of conservation, recycling and responsible energy choices. This month we offer an assortment of creative ways to keep the Garden State Green.

Recycling Forum – Mercer

People have lots of questions about what goes in our recycling bins for curbside pick-up and what to do with everything else. Come and hear the latest news from Dan Napoleon (Mercer County Recycling Chief) & Rick Smith (Pennington Borough Public Works Superintendent). And go home with lots of new ideas courtesy of the Hopewell Valley Green Team.

10th Annual Earth Energy Day Celebration – Sussex
SCMUA Solid Waste Disposal & Recycling Facilities, 34 South Route 94, Lafayette
The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) and the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group (WRWMG) are hosting their 10th annual Earth Energy Day to help make students more aware of topics such as proper solid waste disposal, recycling, watershed management, composting, and energy conservation through participation in hands-on learning activities.

Earth Day in the Meadowlands – Bergen
DeKorte Park , Lyndhurst

Celebrate Earth Day by joining us on this free two-hour guided nature walk in DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. We’ll walk around parts of the park, looking for spring arrivals, bald eagles and other birds. The walk starts at 10 a.m. outside the MEC.

Ribbon Cutting for The Willow School’s Health Wellness & Nutrition Center – Somerset
1150 Pottersville Road, Gladstone
This is the ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for The Willow School’s new Health, Wellness and Nutrition Center. This building is pursuing both USGBC LEED Platinum and The Living Building Challenge Certifications.

Earth Day Volunteer Kickoff at City Green Farm Eco-Center – Passaic
171 Grove Street Clifton
April 22nd, Earth Day, is opening day of our volunteer season at City Green. We will be giving the volunteers a tour of the Farm Eco-Center, providing safety training and undertaking an exciting planting project. Refreshments will be served and all volunteers will be given a small gift as appreciation for there service.
