Sweets on the Beach

ChocolateHurricane Sandy has come and gone. The beaches have survived and life goes on for the many Shore residents who have overcome enormous difficulties and hardships. Some are still in the midst of cleanup and rebuilding. Some are awaiting aid that is slowly making its way to the most needy. Life can be cruel sometimes. A natural disaster, a broken heart or a lost opportunity can send us into a downward spiral. You know what always seems to help to lift our spirits during hard times? Chocolate!

Chocolate Week returns to Long Beach Island with a vengeance this month with enough sweet treats and surprises to melt away any blues you may have. From February 9 – 18, you can indulge yourself in an assortment of candies, cakes and competitions. The timing couldn’t be better. Valentine’s Day is here and local businesses and organizations have come together to offer some amazing events. Let’s take a look at some of the week’s tastiest treats:

Lighthouse International Film Festival Society will present an  film screening for Chocolate Week of CHOCOLAT at Long Beach Island Foundation in Loveladies date and times to be announced.

LBI Foundation will be giving “Chocolate Turtles” as a tribute to our local ecosystem and conservation efforts during the Science Saturday Program.  For exact dates and more information call 609-494-1241.

Enjoy Valentine’s Day Stories then make a card and delicious chocolate truffles rolled in peppermint, nuts or sprinkles for you or someone special.  Ages 2-8

THIRD ANNUAL CHOCOLATE WEEK BARTENDER COMPETITION AT TGIFRIDAYS  Fabulous prizes, signature drinks and a show. Murder Mystery Dinner Show:  Cupid’s Chocolate Covered Arrow
The Engleside Inn benefitting the Tuckerton Seaport Tuckerton Seaport invites you to join them again for an evening of murder and mayhem on Valentine’s Weekend as part of Chocolate Week, performed by The Riddlesbrood Touring Theater Company.  Proceeds from this dinner theater event will benefit the Seaport’s educational programs.
