Boardwalk Bravado Swagger at the Shore Atlantic City Lives

acWhy is it that we always choose not to look at the bright side of life? Why do we hear only bad news and don’t look deeper into the story. And why oh why do we listen to naysayers that preach doom and gloom. Maybe these folks are just unhappy with their lives and want everybody else to suffer. Whatever.
For those who know me, and the four or five who don’t… I am a comedian and moonlight as your faithful and fanciful editor and contributor.
I just finished up a run of shows over this past summer at the Comedy Stop Café and Cabaret at the Tropicana and I can tell you for a fact that this town is hoppin’ and happenin’ in every way possible. As Mark Twain once quipped, “Reports of this town’s (sic) death are greatly exaggerated.”

Business is business. Some thrive, some fail (remember Elephant Wear?).
No one cries disaster when a Gap store at the mall closes its doors. The end of the world doesn’t happen just because a widget plant shuts down and moves to Ohio. And just because a couple of casinos are going the way of cassette tape players doesn’t mean that a whole city is falling apart. The Revel is the latest casualty maybe because it was just designed too big. According to a report on Fox News it is one of three man-made structures visible from outer space, the others being the Space Shuttle Assembly Plant in Florida and Governor Christie. Whatever. There’s still plenty of action to go around. This city by the sea is host to some of the hottest entertainment in the world and you can actually get tickets! Imagine that! Let’s just take a look at some of the events coming this month alone…

Miss America’s back! On September 14 you can be there as ABC-TV broadcasts the pageant live throughout the country. The fun starts on September 9 and will include boardwalk parades and the First Annual Miracle Mile Walk and Steel Pier Celebration, and if that’s not enough, musical guests – two words – Village People.

Atlantic City Seafood Festival! September 13 & 14. Fun, food, entertainment, celebrity chefs, exhibitors, wine tasting, kids activities…you get the idea.

Beer Festival 2014! On September 26 & 27 the Golden Nugget presents Craft Beer Blowout, a Beer and Sushi Pairing and the Fourth Annual Craft Beer Tasting Event.

Joe Holiday’s Family Friendly Magic Show! Nightly at the Trop (except Wednesday) this entertainer gets the whole family involved in the most creative and fun magic show on the entire East Coast.

In Concert…
Michael McDonald & Toto Harrah’s 9/6
Steely Dan Caesars 9/12
Wynonna Tropicana 9/27

Shall We Dance?
Mixx on Monday nights at the Borgata, Friday and Saturday it’s Boogie Nights at the Trop and there’s always Margaritaville at Resorts every night.
Hungry…?
You like Italian? Try Carmine’s at the Quarter in the Tropicana or Buca di Beppo at Bally’s, or Angelo’s Fairmount Tavern.
Steaks? The Palm at the Quarter in the Trop, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, or Morton’s.

See a show, eat a gourmet meal, dance the night away, and hey, if you have the time, you can even gamble a little. We’ll leave the lights on for ya.
