Walk with me

This year in the United States there will be 62 separate events to raise funds for one of the most important and needed charities in the nation – Easter Seals.
Easter Seals is the leading non-profit provider of services for individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities and other special needs. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation to job training, Easter Seals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life’s challenges and achieve their personal goals. Easter Seals creates life-changing solutions so that people with disabilities can live, learn, work and play. While their services stretch across the country, each Easter Seals’ focus is local. The services they provide are tailored to meet the needs of the communities they are a part of, so every Easter Seals is unique…just like the clients they serve. It is no secret that New Jersey has an inordinate number of cases involving autism and severe learning disabilities. It is also no secret that New Jersey is also one of the states that has raised more money to combat these diseases than anywhere else in the union.

This year’s big event takes place on May 5th at none other than the biggest venue we have available – Met Life Stadium, home to the World Champion Giants and the Jets as well, with their new poster boy, Tim Tebow, a man who is well known and respected for his charitable contributions. Individual walkers and teams join hundreds of other passionate people in their communities for a day full of entertainment, fun and, of course, their signature walk. Last year, over 23,000 people from across the country joined their local Walk With Me events and, together, raised $3.8 million. This year, you can help Easter Seals accomplish even more and while you’re at it have some fun as well. Every walk event is different — your walk could be at a local school or at the aquarium, but somehow being on this field of dreams with thousands of seats looking down at you seems to be something of a grander nature. Here’s what you can expect: Exciting festivities for the entire family will take place before and after including a kid’s fun football toss right on the field, a health fair on the sidelines, race prize awards for top runners in a variety of age categories, music, giveaways, appearances by metropolitan area radio stations, and more. All participants will also receive a T-shirt and other prize incentives based on their levels of sponsorship or funds raised. Registration begins at 8:30 am and the walk/5K race will kick off at 10 am on the 50-yard line by event emcee and entertainment reporter for CBS 2 News, Katie McGee. When you participate in an Easter Seals Walk With Me event, you’ll be walking alongside their Honorary Ambassadors – individuals with disabilities who benefit from their services. You can read their personal stories to learn more about them by visiting their Honorary Ambassadors page.
