Vintage Vinyl

Dear concert promoter,

I would like to get tickets to see a show this summer that won’t sell out in 30 seconds or cost the price of what I could have bought a car with in 1975. Is there any chance you might be able to accommodate me? Also, could you please get the remaining Beatles and Who members to form a new band? Since the Who lost a drummer and a bass player, maybe Ringo and Sir Paul would agree to a new “supergroup.” I even have a name – “The Whootles.” Thank you for your time. Signed – Last Row Louie

And so it goes for many of those New Jersey music lovers who would love to see more concerts but just don’t have the money or the Internet ticket buying knowledge of the chosen and savvy few. Roger Water’s Pink Floyd concert sold out in about ten minutes and Stub Hub ticket brokers are pricing out at over $1000 for a decent seat. Ditto for the Eagles Atlantic City show and _________________

What is a classic rock music lover to do? I am a self-confessed Band Aid, not as attractive as Penny Lane in “Almost Famous” but I love the music just as much. Thankfully, someone out there has heard our plea and has done something about it. The State Theatre in New Brunswick is presenting a series entitled Classic Albums Live. No it is not the original bands in concert, reborn and reunited (and in some cases revived from the dead), but some of the nation’s best tribute bands recreating the music from some of the most revered vinyl recordings ever pressed. Remember playing records on a turntable, setting that needle down and cranking up the volume? With these shows you have an opportunity to close your eyes in a beautiful theatre and hear the music of your youth. No Bruno Mars, No LMFAO, no Pit Bull, just real rock and roll from decades long gone but still as vital as Mick Jagger’s lip gloss.

Here is the lineup for the concerts of August:
Aug 4          Dark Side of the Moon     Pink Floyd
Aug 10        Hotel California                 The Eagles
Aug 24        Abbey Road                        The Beatles

Dear concertgoer,

We here at the State Theatre in New Brunswick hope this letter finds you in good spirits and doing well, and we hope this series of Classic Albums Live meets all your expectations. We feel our tickets are reasonably priced and our facilities are up to your standards. We believe we offer the best in entertainment in a comfortable and professional environment. As per your request concerning the Beatles/ Who merger, we have contacted all parties involved but have since learned that Ringo will not be available as he is starring in the new film “The Hobbit” as the funny and misunderstood dwarf in the background. Thanks for your interest.

Sincerely,
State Theatre of New Jersey
